Once again we are approaching the end of the year, and we have some good news to share: Modern Music School in now represented in the Middle East!

In August, Sebastian Quirmbach (International Educational Director) and I (Hans-Peter Becker, CEO) visited the beautiful city of Tehran to meet with Alireza Tabatabei, the future Modern Music School owner and school manager. We spent a week to introduce him and his team of teachers to the concept and teaching methods of Modern Music School.

We were thrilled about the enthusiasm and motivation the entire Modern Music School Tehran met us with.

Iran looks back on more than a thousand years of history and culture. Its music is infused by a number of different music traditions — Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Afghan, and many others influences come together here — so I don’t think it’s self-evident that western pop and rock music would be seen as a valuable vehicle for teaching musical instruments.

Especially in a country where music aimed at bringing joy, pleasure and entertainment is still not necessarily liked by all, it’s a big step to use rock and pop music as a medium to convey skills like motivation, perseverance, focus, creativity, team play and empathy.

Alireza Tabatabei and his team dove into these subjects while we were there. After teaching the administrative side of things for the first few days, we filled the last three days with our Teacher Training Program, after all – as you probably heard before – a school is only as good as its teachers!

And the teachers in Tehran certainly impressed us. We’re positive they’ll take their new knowledge and combine it with their creativity and devotion to music to teach great music classes.
