December 2, 2019 by Hans-Peter

Decorated Christmas Tree

Oh, come, little children, oh, come, one and all: Christmas time is the time for music! At least in Germany, Christmas is the time when parents want their children to show how far they’ve come on their instruments. November 6, 2019 by Hans-Peter

Musicians promoting soft skills

With employers, the most in-demand skills are soft-skills. When hiring, employers and companies consider soft skills a more important attribute in job applicants than hard skills – specific job-related knowledge. 3 glückliche Kinder

Self-regulation is the ability to regulate one’s behaviour, thoughts and emotions, and, since it can be a better indication of academic success than IQ, self-regulation is a hot topic in the world of education today. We all work really hard to see our children succeed, both academically and in life in general,  but are often […]

Learn faster with “flow” and start to really enjoy practicing

July 30, 2019 by Hans-Peter

Musician playing his guitar

It wasn’t until I was 19 that I experienced flow on my drums for the first time. I would spend entire days practicing my strokes and rolls (both drumming techniques). Highly focused, I would repeat these techniques for hours on end, as the world around me seemed to disappear. I can still remember the joy […]

Creative activities help us to cope with emotions

July 3, 2019 by Hans-Peter

couple playing music happy

All our thoughts and actions are guided by emotions. Love, hate, sadness, trust, disappointment, boredom and curiosity are just a fraction of the emotions and moods that we encounter in life. How we respond to them determines our well-being and life in general. The fact that music and creative activities help to improve our mood […]

Kids singing

Do you ever find that you’re not progressing on your instrument as fast as you were hoping to? You’re still not part of a band although “playing in front of a large audience” is at the top of your bucket list? We might have a solution for you. First of all, please know that it […]

Why chunking makes you learn music faster

Kid playing the drums

Sometimes less is more. If you want to learn a new song as fast as possible, you might want to slow things down. I know, that sounds counterintuitive, but it’s exactly what modern neuroscience discovered: take it step by step. The natural tendency of most musicians to learn a new song is to play the […]

5 Things that make great (music)teachers stand out

April 8, 2019 by Hans-Peter

When it comes to learning, teachers are the single most powerful driver of student performance. The importance of great teachers can’t be underestimated – we all can name a teacher who stands out in our memory because they were particularly engaging, encouraging or inspiring. At Modern Music School, we accept this challenge. We’re committed to […]

Piano, the mother of all instruments – or the father?

March 6, 2019 by Hans-Peter

Of course, historically, the drum is the mother of all instruments, not the piano. But as far as learning melody and harmony is concerned, the piano offers many benefits. There’s a reason why it’s the most played musical instrument in the world! And also the instrument from which much of the music is written and […]

About me

My goal is to bring happiness to you and your child's life. In times where anxiety and stress levels among children and youth are at an all-time high, I make it my mission to create a space for children to grow up as happy, emotionally-resilient and creative individuals. With real connections, friendship and play being replaced by television, tablets and iPhones, I provide children with opportunities to connect with peers, to form real friendships and to grow up as socially competent, responsible human beings.

About Modern Music School

Hans-Peter Becker, once a professional drummer, now educator, author and entrepreneur, made it his mission to connect the world with music – and he’s succeeding. He is the founder of the Modern Music School, which is one of the largest music schools in the world. In its more than 80 international branches, Modern Music School has taught more than 100,000 musicians in Germany, US and Greece since 1987.
